The Company considers investments in projects where the
commercial viability is reasonably assured and where such
projects would contribute to the economic development of the
Sultanate and support the Governments objectives of:
- creating employment
opportunities for Omani citizens;
- substituting imports with
local products;
- promoting export oriented
industries.
Ominvest is a major shareholder
in the
industrial fields of steel, aluminium, plastics,
detergents, chemicals and food products. Currently the Company
is actively exploring opportunities in other industrial and
tourism ventures within Oman.
Ominvest has performed
consistently since inception in 1983 and has a track record of
uninterrupted profits and dividend payments from the very first
year of operations.
The Company has
three main Board Committees – the Executive Committee, the Audit
Committee and the Project Committee. In general, the Executive
Committee, consisting of four members of the Board of Directors,
is delegated full powers and authority to facilitate the smooth
running of the operations of the Company with the exception of
certain matters reserved to the Board for approval.
The Audit
Committee consists of three members of the Board of Directors.
The Audit Committee’s primary function is to assist the Board in
fulfilling its oversight responsibilities with respect to (i)
the financial information to be provided to shareholders and
Capital Market Authority; (ii) the system of internal controls
that management has established; and (iii) the internal and
independent audit process.
The Project
Committee's role is to advise,
monitor progress and assist the management on project related
assignments. The Project comprises of maximum four members of
the Board of Directors.
Ominvest is quoted on the Muscat Securities Market (www.msm.gov.om). Up
to 70% of the Company’s shares are open to foreign ownership. The
Company has a wide shareholder base of around 1,000 including local
banks, pension trusts, insurance companies, investment brokerage
houses, various joint stock companies, major trading houses and
prominent Omani citizens. |
